The Mexico Grand Prix has confirmed it: 2024 marks the best version of Charles Leclerc we’ve ever seen in Ferrari.
Charles Leclerc equals his record for podium finishes in a season
With his third-place finish last Sunday, the Monegasque has reached the podium in 11 races this year, the same as in 2019.
There are two main differences between these two seasons: the number of Grands Prix in which he reached this threshold (21 in his first year with Ferrari, 20 in the current Formula One championship) and the car’s competitiveness, which was more consistent five years ago (always among the top three teams, without any “off” moments).
With three wins this 2024—Monaco, Monza, and Austin—compared to two in 2019, the only statistic in which today’s Charles Leclerc falls short of his first year with Ferrari is pole positions (3 instead of 7).
This statistic shows how the SF-24 struggles to find a rhythm over a single lap, only to be much more competitive in the race. Last year’s car, on the other hand, was the opposite: extremely fast in qualifying but challenging during the race.
Perhaps the next Ferrari, which will also be Lewis Hamilton‘s first, will manage to achieve a perfect balance between performance in both scenarios…
