Kimi Raikkonen remains the last Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 world champion, thanks to the title won in a thrilling manner at the end of the 2007 season. The Finnish driver retired from the sport after spending the last two years with Alfa Romeo (2019–2021). “It doesn’t matter how it comes to the end, it’s the end now and yes, I’m looking forward to it,” Kimi said after his final Formula 1 race.
Following his retirement, the Finn has tried various other experiences, including a few NASCAR races, but Kimi Raikkonen is now free of the highly demanding Formula 1 schedule and his wife Minttu was asked in a recent interview about how the former Ferrari driver’s family life has changed since then.
In addition to his 2007 title, Kimi Raikkonen re-wrote the Formula 1 history by becoming the most experienced driver of all time, a stat that has since fallen to Fernando Alonso, who is still taking part in the Formula 1 world championship.
The final race of the 2021 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina circuit is clearly remembered for other events, but it was also the last Grand Prix in the career of Kimi Raikkonen, as the former Ferrari man, who remains a fan favorite even now, left the sport with no particular plans except for spending more time with his wife and children.
And that is exactly what the Finn has been doing. His wife Minttu recently announced that their family will soon get even bigger with a third child on the way, an addition which she admitted that would not have happened if Kimi would have continued to take part in a demanding series such as Formula One instead of enjoying the family life.
This is a life very “different” to the one Kimi Raikkonen was used to for more than two decades while racing in Formula 1:

“We have a boy and a girl, so I thought that was perfect – it is. But then my husband retired and he was home more,” Minttu explained in a recent interview for American monthly fashion and lifestyle magazine Vogue. “I wouldn’t be here, pregnant with my third child, if he was still driving. I love that he likes to do things with the kids – he’s very good at that. It’s definitely different now that there are two parents at home.” – she admitted.
At the same time, as was expected, racing is still very much in the Raikkonen genes: their eight-year-old son Robin is constantly taking part in go-karting races, having even one his first karting event. Five-year-old daughter Rianna also has an interest in motors, which could well lead her onto the junior racing ladder as well.
“Our son is now driving go-karts, so he’s definitely interested,” Minttu confirmed – “Our daughter is also already driving, but not racing yet. So the interest is there. I will support them in whatever they want to do.”
In addition to his family life, Kimi Raikkonen has not completely given up on racing just yet: a few weeks ago, he appeared at the Circuit of The Americas NASCAR Cup Series round, where he shared the grid another former Formula 1 champion, Jenson Button. Following the COTA race weekend, the former Ferrari man confirmed that he is taking into consideration the possibility of returning for some more NASCAR outings in the next years.
