Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz risks losing podium finish in 2021 Hungarian GP. Carlos risks losing podium finish in 2021 Hungarian GP.

Aston Martin Cognizant Formula 1 Team has officially announced that it has challenged the decision of the race stewards from the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix who disqualified four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel from the final standings. The German crossed the line behind Esteban Ocon and in front of Lewis Hamilton and Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz. But in the parc fermé, during the FIA checks, the technical delegates found an irregularity on the car, given that the AMR21 did not have the minimum amount of fuel that is required by regulation to exist on board at the end of the race.

According to the calculations of the team principal of the Silverstone team, however, in the presence of the technical delegate and the director of the federation, the British F1 still had 1.44 liters in the tank. However, the inability to extract the alleged volume of fuel from the car forced the international federation to impose a sanction against the German, disqualifying him from the race.

In the late afternoon of yesterday, the Aston Martin team communicated, through an official note, that it had submitted a formal appeal request the international federation a review of the disqualification of Sebastian Vettel imposed at the end of the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix.

“Sebastian Vettel, who finished second at the finish line of the Hungarian GP, was disqualified because the stewards considered it impossible to take a 1-liter sample of fuel from his car at the end of the event. No data in the possession of the team suggests that Vettel has benefited from an advantage of this alleged violation of the regulation. “

“Furthermore, since the data in the team’s possession showed that there were still 1.74 liters on the car, the team immediately made it known that it would appeal its right to have it overhauled, requesting the formal initiation of the procedures today. The team believes it will be able to provide further evidence, not available at the time of the decision by the stewards. “

At the moment Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz is awarded the 15 points for third place assigned to him after the disqualification of Sebastian Vettel. However, if Aston Martin’s appeal is successful and the Silverstone team manages to prove that the “fateful” liter of fuel was in the tank of AMR21 number 5, the Spaniard would lose 3 points and drop to 80 in the Formula One drivers’ standings, on a par with teammate Charles Leclerc.
