Home » Former Ferrari driver Rene Arnoux praises Fred Vasseur: “Same path as McLaren, but faster”

Former Ferrari driver Rene Arnoux praises Fred Vasseur: “Same path as McLaren, but faster”. René Arnoux shares his thoughts on Fred Vasseur and Ferrari's recent progress.

Victorious at the Monza circuit in the Italian Grand Prix, Ferrari is getting back on track after the less fruitful updates at the beginning of the year: René Arnoux praises Fred Vasseur’s work.

The third win of the 2024 Formula 1 season for the Prancing Horse puts the red team in a privileged position in the Constructors’ Championship. The 39 points to catch up are not a Mission Impossible for a team that, according to Rene Arnoux, will challenge its rivals until the end of the season.

The former Ferrari driver was recently interviewed by the Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, analyzing the Monza race: “Ferrari had a great level of performance, with low tire wear. This, besides being decisive, also gives hope for the next races.” – the former Formula 1 driver added.

The red team’s success “besides making me happy, is good for the championship,” explained the 1948-born driver. “We will witness a great battle between Red Bull, McLaren, and Ferrari until the end.”

Ferrari is more of a team compared to the past, and you can see the influence of Frédéric Vasseur. René Arnoux is convinced of this, even though he doesn’t know the Team Principal personally, he recognizes the value of the work in Maranello. “It seems to me that he is replicating the growth that McLaren achieved. And I believe he is doing it even faster. McLaren’s progress is the result of work that began three or four years ago.” – he added.

According to Rene Arnoux, Ferrari has also made progress in managing strategies. “Things have changed. On Sunday they were very good. It might have seemed like they took a big risk by opting for a single stop. Instead, I think they had data and certainties: they made great progress. This is another aspect that makes me hopeful for the future.” – the former Ferrari driver concluded.
