Watch: Rubens Barrichello wins at Hungaroring, as Ferrari secures 4th straight title | 2002 Hungarian GP. Rubens wins in Hungary, as Ferrari secures fourth straight title.

On 18th August 2002, Rubens Barrichello won the Hungarian Grand Prix. Thanks to this result, combined with Michael Schumacher’s second place, the Scuderia also took the Constructors’ title, its fourth in a row, two races after the German had secured the Drivers’ crown.

Rubens Barrichello took the first step to victory on the Saturday, when he beat his team-mate in the battle for pole position. At the Hungaroring, grid position was very important when it came to the race result and Rubens made the most of starting from the clean side of the track, keeping the lead going into the first corner. From then on, the two Ferraris controlled the situation quite comfortably: on lap 10 the advantage over Ralf Schumacher in the Williams was already ten seconds. After the second run of pit stops, logically the positions of the two Ferraris was settled, even if Michael decided to enjoy himself a bit in the closing stages, setting the fastest race lap in an amazing time, almost seven tenths faster than his team-mate. “The reason I set the race fastest lap towards the end goes back to Silverstone,” explained Michael. “Then, we were in a similar situation to today when Rubens, who was behind me, unexpectedly put in the fastest lap. So I asked Ross what was the fastest time and I did that lap to pay Rubens back!”
