SF-24 gains approval from former Ferrari driver: “A lot of trust in the team”. Gerhard Berger believes that Ferrari could be the only real challenger to Red Bull in 2024.

Gerhard Berger believes that Ferrari could be the only real challenger to Red Bull in 2024, with McLaren and Mercedes seen as potential outsiders.

Amidst possible surprises and disappointments, the only certainty at the moment remains Red Bull, which will enter the next season with all the betting odds in their favor. The real attention will be immediately behind, with Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes intending to chase Max Verstappen from the early races.

The stakes according to Gerhard Berger
“If Red Bull keeps its team so united, it will be difficult to catch them,” began the Austrian in an interview with Auto Motor Und Sport. “It can only work if the others make radical steps.”

Nevertheless, Gerhard Berger, who drove for Ferrari from 1987 to 1989 and from 1993 to 1995, does not rule out that the Prancing Horse can compete with the Milton Keynes team: “I still have a lot of trust in Ferrari. In the second part of the season, they were better than the results suggest.” – the Austrian believes.

Also, keep an eye on potential outsiders who could disrupt Maranello’s plans: “You should never underestimate Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. McLaren is also doing an excellent job.”

Finally, according to Gerhard Berger, it’s only a matter of time before Red Bull’s great dominance comes to an end: “I find it incredibly interesting because this dominance repeats itself continually. Sometimes it’s McLaren, sometimes Williams, Ferrari, Mercedes, or Red Bull. Everyone ends up at some point, usually for a similar reason.” – he pointed out.

“Those who win everything, like Red Bull, won’t make radical changes. They have a good foundation and continue to build on it. It benefits them for quite some time. But then comes the moment when the second or third team makes this radical step. If they succeed, the situation flips.”

“Long-term success also has an effect on the people in the team. At some point, inevitably, they get tired and seek a new challenge, or they are attracted by other teams. Not just with money. The new team makes them feel important. With the old one, they only feel part of the success.” – the former Ferrari driver concluded.
