The 2023 Formula 1 championship got underway last weekend and Jean Alesi’s analyzes are also back and posted by the Italian daily newspaper Il Corriere della Sera. In his usual Tuesday editorial, the former French driver shared his thoughts on the situation at Ferrari, focusing on the disaster of the Maranello team in the Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sakhir circuit. While defining the weekend in Sakhir as “a cold shower” for the Maranello team’s fans, Jean Alesi believes that the World Championship is not over yet. The former Ferrari man also wanted to praise Adrian Newey, technical director of Red Bull, for his thinking behind the new Red Bull challenger.
Jean Alesi’s analysis
“It was a cold shower for every Ferrari fan. A disappointing opening race with the feeling that the problems that emerged during testing remained unresolved,” began an embittered Jean Alesi in his analysis for the Italian daily newspaper Il Corriere della Sera.
Then the ex-Formula 1 driver concentrated on what had an impact, in addition to the technical failure suffered by Charles Leclerc, on the disappointing result for the Maranello team: “When the Ferrari technicians look for performance, lowering the car, tire wear increases. Which led to significant problems in Bahrain. The issue requires a sort of immediate repair test, which is not simple and perhaps cannot be done in short time, assuming that it is enough to find an aerodynamic balance to recover” – the former Ferrari man explained.
“We will see the outcome in the next races, all on very different tracks, if I am thinking of Arabia, which is very fast; in Melbourne and Baku. Three GPs between now and the end of April which will be able to give us some more certain elements on the future of Ferrari and of the entire world championship,” he added.

Ferrari’s demerits, however, aren’t the only factor that made Red Bull the absolute force of the Bahrain weekend. It must be said that, once again, the Milton Keynes team has produced an extraordinary car, thanks above all to Adrian Newey. “He has dominated the technical scene for twenty years. Always on the spot, on the pit wall, on the track. He observes, take notes, studies to improve. Adrian Newey is an outstanding engineer, a leader out of reach and an example for everyone. He never stops applying humility and genius, as only the greatest ever can do” – concluded Jean Alesi.
