Fernando Alonso hits out at Lewis Hamilton: "Two months ago, Ferrari wasn't his dream"

Fernando Alonso has commented on Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, throwing a little jab at the seven-time world champion.

The British driver’s arrival in Maranello has not left anyone indifferent in the paddock. Many have expressed their opinions on the “transfer of the century.” Fernando Alonso, the Spanish champion, has also given his perspective on Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari. However, he hinted that, in his opinion, Lewis may not have been entirely truthful about the reasons for leaving Mercedes.

The Asturian driver confessed to Autosport that he didn’t give too much weight to the news and received it a day late. “I didn’t spend much time reflecting on it. That day I was training. I missed all the excitement. I got the news a day late.”

Fernando Alonso, however, expressed surprise at Lewis Hamilton’s choice to go to Ferrari, given his strong bond with Mercedes.

“It was a surprise, I won’t lie,” the Spaniard said. “But not for the change itself. Rather because, from the outside, it seemed like he was very attached to Mercedes, very loyal to them and such things. It was a bit unexpected. I don’t know the reasons or the story; I don’t know anything. I didn’t pay too much attention.” – he pointed out.

Lewis Hamilton, on social media, after the official announcement, emphasized that driving for the Scuderia was a childhood dream of his. However, Alonso doesn’t quite buy into this story and didn’t hesitate to throw a little jab at his former McLaren teammate.

“Up until a year ago, it wasn’t his childhood dream, right? Or even two months ago, I believe. He had a different dream. I hope he enjoys the experience. I think it’s a very special team. But it’s more special when you win. They have had a fast car for a few years now. Perhaps Lewis can give that little extra to fight for the championship because the car is there.” – the Spaniard added.

Fernando Alonso doesn’t seem entirely convinced about Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari. The Spaniard is convinced that there might be some other reason behind the departure from Mercedes. Nevertheless, Fernando is undoubtedly very interested in the matter since he could potentially take Lewis’s place at Brackley.
