Home » Fernando Alonso and the gap to Ferrari: the Spaniard’s immediate reaction after Singapore

Fernando Alonso and the gap to Ferrari: the Spaniard’s immediate reaction after Singapore. Another tough weekend for Aston Martin at the Singapore F1 GP.

Ferrari is always on Fernando Alonso’s mind, even after the Singapore F1 Grand Prix. The Spaniard finished eighth, right behind Carlos Sainz, a result that was unexpected for him. Aston Martin continues to struggle, with Lance Stroll only finishing 14th, while the British team awaits the much-anticipated technical breakthrough. With Adrian Newey joining in 2026, will the team finally be able to dream big?

The Singapore Grand Prix had many stories. A race of two halves, it completely changed pace after the first part: in the early stages, due to the many DRS trains forming throughout the pack, overtaking was almost impossible. The crowd had to wait until the first pit stops to witness some on-track battles, with comebacks from Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton.

Stuck behind Nico Hulkenberg until his pit stop, Fernando Alonso still managed to keep Charles Leclerc behind him. This was extremely frustrating for the Monegasque, as it cost him any chance of a podium. The race pace of the SF-24, second only to McLaren, deserved a better result.

Returning to Fernando Alonso, the Spaniard can be satisfied: “Today was a very physical race, but we did everything right and scored good points. We tried the undercut strategy, pitting a few laps earlier than the others, and it worked pretty well for us.” – the former Ferrari driver pointed out.

“In truth, the car was difficult to drive all weekend,” the Spanish driver explained. “We can say we did very well finishing just a few seconds behind a Ferrari. We have a lot of work to do at Silverstone in the coming weeks to try and improve our performance ahead of Austin.” – Fernando Alonso concluded at the end of the Singapore Grand Prix in Marina Bay.
