On the occasion of the return of the Belgian Grand Prix, it seemed only fitting to pay tribute to the true King of the Spa-Francorchamps track: Kimi Raikkonen.
Kimi Raikkonen-Spa, a special feeling: the triumphs
The Finn has always had a special connection with the track known as “the University of Formula 1.” Using this designation, we can say that “Iceman” graduated with flying colors.
Between 2004 and 2009, the Belgian Grand Prix was held five times, skipping the 2006 edition. Kimi Raikkonen triumphed in four of these five events, with the exception of 2008.
First with McLaren and then with Ferrari, there was only one King at Spa; capable of beating even Michael Schumacher, who holds the record for victories on the Belgian track (6).
Together with the star of the present – and likely the near future – Max Verstappen, Kimi identified this track as “his favorite to race on.”
We know well that he has never lacked talent, and at every Belgian Grand Prix where it was necessary to show it, Raikkonen demonstrated it to the whole world.
In short, we can say that for several years we witnessed a perfect combination, formed by a fantastic circuit and a driver far above average, who became its undisputed King.
