With the end of the Abu Dhabi GP, Carlos Sainz’s time with Ferrari also comes to a close: the post-race team radio. After four seasons in Maranello, the Spaniard leaves the Scuderia to join James Vowles’ team. He departs with a tally of 24 podiums and 4 victories, which crown a chapter that was often complex yet undoubtedly memorable in his career.
Whether it is a goodbye or just a farewell, Carlos Sainz and Ferrari part ways at the checkered flag in Yas Marina. They do so without quarrels or lingering issues, despite reasons that were not entirely flattering for the Spaniard: after all, someone had to leave to make room for Lewis Hamilton. What is certain, however, is that everything that could be given was given, for the team and for the fans.
The #55 arrived in Maranello when Ferrari was still trying to recover from the disastrous 2020. He witnessed the team’s steady progress, securing his first podium in Monaco in 2021 and his first victory at Silverstone in 2022. His last win, in Mexico, hard-fought and deeply desired, is the legacy Carlos leaves at Ferrari: a combative driver who would have loved to give even more to the Scuderia.
Carlos Sainz’s farewell team radio at the end of the Abu Dhabi GP
Closing his final race in the red car, Carlos Sainz shared a team radio: “Great job, guys. We did our best. They weren’t that much faster, but… We did our best.”
At this point, his race engineer asked him to change a setting on the steering wheel, revealing an image not shown on the onboard camera: “Haha, you’re a legend! I like it, I like it!”
Riccardo Adami: “Thank you for the hard work over these four years. It’s been a pleasure working with you. Exceptional talent, commitment, and passion for this sport.”
Carlos Sainz: “Thank you. Thank you, Ricci. Thank you, Ferrari. It’s been a pleasure driving for you. Forza Ferrari always!”
