Aston Martin is set for a pivotal 2025 Formula 1 season, with Adrian Newey’s expertise beginning to shape their development approach. While his primary focus will be on the team’s 2026 challenger, his impact is expected to be felt in their latest upgrades. After a season where they prioritized downforce over balance, Aston Martin has reworked their philosophy, aiming to deliver a more competitive package.

The team has now unveiled the AMR25 ahead of pre-season testing, and according to a Motorsport.es report, a key feature of the car is an ‘extreme’ redesign directly influenced by Ferrari. One of the most striking elements is the adoption of Ferrari’s ‘bathtub’ sidepod concept, which features an aggressive inward sweep toward the chassis, mirroring the Scuderia’s approach. Additionally, Aston Martin has reinstated Red Bull-style cooling cannons, a feature they had abandoned midway through 2024 in pursuit of a different aerodynamic path.

As they look to close the gap to McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari—widely expected to be the leading teams—Aston Martin has also taken driver feedback into account. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll conducted extensive testing last season to address stability issues, and team principal Andy Cowell has confirmed that the 2025 car has been designed to be more ‘benign’ and predictable to drive. The coming season will reveal whether these changes can elevate Aston Martin from their position as the fifth-fastest team and bring them into closer contention with the front-runners.

The British Formula One engineer explained that Aston Martin had carefully considered the lessons learned and driver feedback from the previous season when designing their 2025 car. He emphasized that the team had prioritized making the car more driveable for both Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso, with a particular focus on ensuring a more predictable and stable handling experience.

He acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting that the competition would be fierce from the very first race at the Albert Park circuit in Australia.
