Charles Leclerc: “We never won in Abu Dhabi? It had never happened in Monaco either…”. Charles Leclerc analyzed the Qatar Grand Prix, revealing what the problem was for Ferrari.

Charles Leclerc, Ferrari 2024 F1 interview

The final result hides the difficulties faced by the Scuderia in the penultimate race of the year. Looking at the standings at the end of the Qatar GP, it seems that the weekend in Lusail was positive for a Ferrari now heading to Abu Dhabi with the possibility of becoming constructors’ champions.

The Maranello team is twenty-one points behind McLaren with just one race remaining in a season whose outcome will remain uncertain until the final corners. A one-two finish at the Marina Bay circuit will not be enough for Ferrari, as they will also need to monitor the results of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Charles Leclerc explains Ferrari’s problem in Lusail
Despite securing second place, Charles Leclerc explained what went wrong for Ferrari during the Qatar GP. “Since we arrived here, no one has said it, but I think we were all sure we’d lose points. The problem wasn’t so much managing the tires. The truth is that we didn’t have the pace. In the end, it turned out well, and we’ll give it our all in Abu Dhabi,” said the Monegasque.

“On paper, we should be closer compared to Qatar. From our side, we’ll obviously give everything,” Charles Leclerc added. “Have we never won in Abu Dhabi? True, but there’s always a first time. It had never happened in Monaco either, yet we saw how that went.” – the Monegasque driver concluded at the end of the race which was held at the 5.419-kilometre Lusail International Circuit.
