On 26th April 1975, qualifying took place for the Spanish Grand Prix. Pole went to Niki Lauda, who at the wheel of the 312 T, beat his team-mate Clay Regazzoni by a tenth. It was Ferrari’s first pole of the season, in a year that had not produced much to smile about so far.
It was the Scuderia’s 71st pole and Lauda’s tenth, but the race did not go well for them. The Austrian was involved in an accident at the start with Vittorio Brambilla and Mario Andretti. The American in the Parnelli hit the Ferrari which then piled into Regazzoni. The Swiss driver had to pit, rejoining after a long delay and was never even classified at the end. Despite the lack of promise, it would turn out to be a good season, with Niki Lauda taking the title for the first time. There would be eight poles and starting at the next round in Monaco, wins: five for Niki Lauda and one for Clay Regazzoni.
