Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc will be carrying out the 18 inch tyre test on behalf of Pirelli, as the Maranello team carry out the first official tyre test of 2020.
Formula 1 official tyre supplier Pirelli have confirmed that Charles Leclerc will be carrying out the first testing duties of 2020, as the Monegasque will be driving a mule Ferrari for the initial 18 inch tyre test of the year.
With 18 inch tyres on the way for 2021, a proper testing programme for the new wheels and tyres will be conducted over the course of this year. All the teams will be given the chance to participate, with Ferrari carrying out the initial test this weekend at Jerez. Towards the end of 2019, several teams carried out some initial shakedowns on the new wheels, with Mercedes, McLaren and Renault all carrying out some individual test days and begin the process of learning for Pirelli.

The Monegasque driver will be at the wheel of a mule 2019 car, modified to suit the new rules for the 18 inch tyres.
All the data gleaned from these 18 inch tyre tests will be shared with the rest of the grid as they are carried out, and every team is expected to be in a position to provide mule cars for this specific testing.
Following this initial tyre test, Charles Leclerc will fly to Barcelona in the north of Spain as he and Sebastian Vettel will carry out the initial three days of group testing of the 2020 cars.
