The FP3 session of the Abu Dhabi GP left a sense of worry among Ferrari fans, who may have noticed smoke trails coming from the rear of the car. However, the reason for this issue is now clear, and it should calm the supporters of the Italian team.
It seems that the smoke was not related to any engine problems in the two Ferraris. In fact, the explanation lies elsewhere. This is why neither of the two drivers complained about the issue on the radio, as it wasn’t due to any concerning leaks.
So, why was there smoke coming from the rear of the Ferrari during FP3? According to information reported by the Italian media within the Abu Dhabi paddock and Ferrari’s garage, the cause is quite different. It was simply excess oil, more than what was needed. The excess oil was vented out automatically once the cars went on track (thanks to mechanisms that expel the excess when the pressure exceeds the required limit).
This is good news for Ferrari, showing that they have at least this aspect under control. Of course, FP3 didn’t showcase the Ferrari in its best form, and the team is still working in the garage to find the best setup before heading into qualifying.
Charles Leclerc, however, wasn’t at all satisfied with what he saw in FP3. In one of the team’s radio communications, the Monegasque driver said, “Honestly, I don’t think it’s really achievable.”
Seeing Charles Leclerc, usually always positive and optimistic, so downhearted certainly didn’t go unnoticed by Ferrari fans, especially with the important Abu Dhabi GP coming up in the battle for the constructors’ championship against McLaren.
