Fred Vasseur highlights key change in Charles Leclerc after Lewis Hamilton joined Ferrari. Fred Vasseur has observed a notable shift in Charles Leclerc’s approach since Lewis Hamilton joined the team.

Fred Vasseur, Charles Leclerc, Ferrari 2025 F1

Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari marks a pivotal moment for the Italian team as they pursue their first Formula 1 championship in nearly two decades. His arrival injects a wealth of experience, raw speed, and a champion’s mentality—qualities that could provide the Italian side with the competitive edge they’ve been missing.

Last season, Ferrari fell just 14 points short of the constructors’ title, highlighting how close they were to breaking Red Bull’s dominance. Now, with Hamilton in the garage, the Scuderia has an opportunity to capitalize on his race-winning expertise. His presence not only strengthens Ferrari’s championship aspirations but also serves as a crucial test for Charles Leclerc, who now has the chance to measure himself against one of the sport’s all-time greats.

The Monegasque and the Briton will be looking to maximize the potential of Ferrari’s significantly upgraded 2025 Formula 1 challenger. The Maranello team has implemented sweeping changes to improve overall performance, with a particular focus on adding speed. However, early testing showed signs of concern for Charles Leclerc, who struggled with tyre degradation. This may have been track-specific to Bahrain, but it’s an area Ferrari will need to address heading into the season.

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has highlighted an unexpected benefit of Lewis Hamilton’s arrival—less pressure on Leclerc. With the seven-time Formula 1 world champion taking on part of the leadership burden, Charles Leclerc can focus more on refining his racecraft and delivering consistent performances.

The 2025 Formula 1 campaign kicks off with the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park circuit, making its return as the opener for the first time since 2019. Ferrari claimed victory in Melbourne last year after Max Verstappen’s rare mechanical failure, and they’ll be aiming for another strong start. With Hamilton now in the mix and Leclerc showing renewed confidence, Ferrari has a real shot at making a statement in round one.

From the very beginning, he was certain that Charles Leclerc would gain significant benefits from Lewis Hamilton’s arrival. The Frenchman suggested that it might relieve some of the pressure on Leclerc, allowing him to concentrate more on himself, which he saw as a positive development.

He also pointed out that Leclerc could learn a great deal from Lewis Hamilton, describing him as a great professional from whom there is always something to take away. After several years alongside Carlos Sainz, he believed that having a new teammate was the ideal opportunity for Charles Leclerc to continue his growth.

Ralf Schumacher Highlights Lewis Hamilton’s Early Struggles Against Charles Leclerc in Testing

Charles Leclerc holds a significant advantage over Lewis Hamilton as the Brit begins his journey with Ferrari. Having spent six seasons with the Scuderia, the Monegasque has an intimate understanding of the team, its inner workings, and the car’s characteristics—an edge that Hamilton will need time to bridge.

Adapting to a new environment, learning a different language, and familiarizing himself with an entirely new technical team presents a steep learning curve for the seven-time champion. According to Ralf Schumacher, this adjustment period could prove challenging, especially as Hamilton appears to be struggling with a nervous rear-end in testing—an issue that could hinder his confidence behind the wheel.

Schumacher warned that if Hamilton doesn’t quickly find synergy with the SF-25, he risks facing a repeat of his defeats to George Russell at Mercedes. Qualifying, in particular, has been a weak spot for Hamilton in recent seasons, and with Leclerc widely regarded as one of the fastest drivers over a single lap, the intra-team battle at Ferrari in 2025 promises to be one of the most intriguing storylines of the season.
