The disappointing Australian GP for Ferrari has opened the door to a series of attacks that have been directed at the Scuderia and particularly at Fred Vasseur. The team principal of the Scuderia has come under fire from several critics for his management of the Melbourne race.
A large portion of Ferrari fans did not appreciate the decision to not differentiate the strategy between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc when the rain returned at Albert Park. This decision forced both drivers to come from the back of the field, eventually finishing in eighth and tenth positions.
Antonio Cassano’s attack
Among those who criticized Frederic Vasseur’s and Ferrari’s performance after the Australian GP is Antonio Cassano. The former football star has repeatedly expressed his opinions on Formula 1, especially on Ferrari, never abandoning his usual sharp style. “Lewis Hamilton arrived the other day, did a few tests, and finished tenth. Leclerc, who everyone says is strong, spun out and finished eighth. In the end, Norris always wins,” the former player said on the show Viva El Futbol. “Right now, McLaren is stronger than everyone, but congratulations must go to Antonelli.”
“Fred Vasseur a phenomenon? No, he’s nothing. The car seems to be going in reverse. The real genius is Adrian Newey, who, however, went to Aston Martin,” Antonio Cassano added, criticizing the current Team Principal of Ferrari.
“Look at Andrea Stella. He worked at Ferrari and now with him McLaren is flying. We love those who come from outside. Then our ‘own’ go to other teams and become geniuses. Right now Ferrari is the fourth force. The hope is that Hamilton can give important indications to improve the car.”
The former playmaker (among others) of Inter and Real Madrid then commented on Ferrari’s strategy. “The fault was with the pit wall. Regardless of that, the car isn’t good. McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes are ahead.”
“However, we must congratulate Antonelli. At eighteen, he finished fourth. He will do amazing things in the future,” Antonio Cassano concluded.
