F1 rule changes 2025
2025 will mark the final year of a technical and regulatory cycle that began in the 2022 Formula 1 season with the return of ground effect. Starting in 2026, F1 will undergo radical changes, particularly with power units that will run on 100% synthetic fuels and no longer include the sophisticated MGU-H component.
Nonetheless, there are some adjustments to the 2025 regulations compared to the season that concluded on December 8 in Abu Dhabi. The primary change is that the extra point for the driver setting the fastest lap in a race will no longer be awarded. Here is a summary:
2 kg More, Reaching 800 kg
1) No bonus point for the fastest lap in a race.
2) The minimum weight has been increased by 2 kg, from 798 to 800 kg.
3) If forecasts predict air temperatures exceeding 30.5°C, drivers will be required to wear cooling kits. In that case, the minimum weight will increase from 800 to 805 kg.
