F1 CEO pinpoints one positive in 2023 despite Red Bull dominance: “We gained new markets”. F1 CEO reflects on one positive aspect in the 2023 F1 season.

The former Ferrari team principal celebrates the F1 season that concluded in Abu Dhabi, despite the track witnessing Red Bull’s relentless dominance.

Stefano Domenicali promotes F1

Today’s Formula 1 operates on two entirely distinct tracks. On one side, there’s the track itself, which in 2023 delivered an unequivocal verdict long before the end of the championship; on the other side, there’s a much more tumultuous situation, marked by power struggles between two opposing worlds (FIA and FOM) and attempts to shift the balance between sports and economic interests.

There’s no doubt that in this balance, Formula 1 is taking the second road, strongly advocated by Stefano Domenicali, whose mantra is to “update tradition.” It may not please everyone, especially hardcore fans, but the former Ferrari team principal deserves credit for rejuvenating Formula 1 and making the fans’ experience the new cornerstone of the sport, compelling old circuits to modernize at least in terms of infrastructure and services.

Stefano Domenicali’s comments

The former Ferrari team principal praised the season that concluded in Abu Dhabi: “Certainly, the year that has just ended has been positive for F1 as a whole,” he commented on Rai Radio 1. “We have grown in attention, conquered new markets, developed new products, and, of course, tried to maintain focus on on-track activities despite Verstappen’s impressive dominance, attributed to his remarkable skills and a car that allowed him to showcase his great abilities.” – he explained.

“In general, the season has been super positive, and I allow myself to add that the pandemic was a potentially fatal situation for F1. However, if we look at this sport from Covid onwards, we have managed to build step by step a growth that has brought us today to be one of the most followed sports platforms in the world. We should all be satisfied with this,” concluded the president of Formula One.
