Formula 1 decided not to officially call the three days of pre-season running at the Circuit de Catalunya a ‘test’, but let’s not pretend: this was Formula 1 testing, pure and simple.
While the laptimes from any test can be spectacularly misleading, that doesn’t mean everything that happens should be ignored. The Race had a team of people on the ground in Spain, watching from trackside, speaking to people in the paddock, and monitoring all the data from Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
They are not about to tell you who is going to win the world championship, but here are the useful things they did learn.
