Scuderia Ferrari scored one of its greatest victories in the Italian Grand Prix on September 7, in 1975. Clay Reggazoni (No. 11) won the race before the home crowd at Monza, while his teammate Niki Lauda (No. 12) finished third—good enough to bring him the 1975 Formula One World Championship. With Regazzoni and Lauda scoring 13 points between them, Ferrari also secured the International Cup for Formula One Manufacturers, their first such win since 1964.
As usual, Ferrari’s founder did not attend the race. But Luca Dal Monte describes his reaction vividly in his biography, Enzo Ferrari: Power, Politics, and the Making of an Automotive Empire: “One hundred and twenty miles away from the chaotic Monza celebration, in the quiet solitude of his blue-walled office, Enzo rejoiced. He had waited eleven years, but, at last, he was World Champion again.”
