Today’s edition of trhe Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport focuses on the restructuring of the FIA organization chart. The International Automobile Federation has announced the first executive orders of the new number one Mohammed Ben Sulayem: “The launch of a new and solid governance process, including a fully independent financial audit of the FIA and the hiring of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the FIA”. At the same time, a new and solid governance process including a fully independent financial audit of the global motorsport governing body has also started.
Therefore the International Federation should function as a company and have a CEO. But first a change of statute will be needed, an always complex and complicated process. Among the seven vice presidents are Fabiana Flosi, wife of Bernie Ecclestone, and former McLaren official Sam Michael who takes over from Patrick Head as head of the Safety Commission. The Australian returns to Formula 1 after leaving the Woking team back in 2014. Former Scuderia Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has moved from the Karting Commission and assumed the role of President of the FIA Drivers’ Commission, taking over the responsibilities from Danish former racing driver Tom Kristensen.
