Felipe Massa going to Imola to support Ferrari: “We will see an incredible atmosphere!”. Felipe going to Imola to support Ferrari.

With just a few days until the 2022 Formula 1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Imola circuit, former Scuderia Ferrari driver Felipe Massa was interviewed by Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, as he focused on the excellent start of the season for the Maranello team.

Here are some of Felipe Massa’s most important comments on Scuderia Ferrari and the 2022 Formula 1 season:

On his presence in Imola for the 2022 Emilia Romagna GP
“It is a pleasure to be there, because I have never stopped feeling like part of the Ferrari family. Last year I came to Monza and even though the audience was limited, the atmosphere was incredible. I’m sure that in Imola we will see something even more incredible in a few days. The fans, knowing that there are good chances of victory for Ferrari, will increase their support, their energy to push the red cars”.

On Ferrari’s excellent start to the 2022 Formula 1 season
“The new regulation was an opportunity. On the other hand, no one expected to see Mercedes suffer in this way in terms of performance. It is true that if we see the championship standings, they are not in such bad shape but they struggle a lot in terms of performance. However we should stay calm, because the balance of power is still not so clear after a few races. Let’s look at McLaren, at the first race of the year they were practically last and in Melbourne they scored important points.”

The analysis on the first three races of 2022
“In Bahrain and Arabia, speed mattered a lot; in Melbourne, albeit with a modified track compared to the past, a little less. And now there are circuits where it is more important to have aerodynamic load than top speed: I’m thinking of Imola, Spain and in Monte Carlo, situations in which Ferrari can go even faster than up to now. Because it has been understood that Red Bull has a lot of speed, while in the corners Ferrari is a more balanced car, having a greater downforce”.

On Imola and Ferrari’s prospects in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
“Is Ferrari the favourite for next Sunday? Yes, because the straights on the Santerno circuit are not as many as the corner. Imola is a track that enhances efficiency and load, all strengths of the F1-75 car. I was amazed by the fact that in Maranello they are so far ahead in understanding the new rules. And then the reliability of the single-seater. It is no secret that if Ferrari is so far ahead in the championship, the merit is for the strong condition of the car.”

About Charles Leclerc
“A good car gives you confidence and allows you to do what you want. But what happened last year, namely that Carlos Sainz finished ahead of him in the standings, triggered something in Charles. The fact that Carlos came to live in Maranello, whether he was often in the factory, trained a lot – he is one of those who perhaps trains the most in Formula 1 – helped Charles understand that he had to step up his pace. And so far Charles has done a magnificent job”.

About Carlos Sainz
“He has shown that he is a hard worker, that he is fast and was the protagonist of good races last year. It is not easy when you are a Ferrari driver. Yes, his mistake in Australia can be the result of pressure. I think Carlos is aware that in the next 4-5 races he will be forced to do a perfect job, because if Charles Leclerc widens the gap in the standings, then it becomes necessary for the team to focus on the other driver … “.
