Ex-Ferrari F1 driver explains why top management changes were necessary. Ex-Ferrari F1 driver on top management changes.

With the ban on track tests, during the winter the attention of Formula One enthusiasts and F1 insiders shifted to the various changes at the top of the Formula 1 teams. What obviously hit the most headlines was the change between Mattia Binotto and Frederic Vasseur in the role of Ferrari team principal, but not only, given that Andreas Seidl left McLaren to become Sauber CEO, with Andrea Stella becoming McLaren’s point of reference on the track

And then there is Williams, who departed ways with Jost Capito and welcomed James Vowles at the helm of the team. After leading Renault (for a short time) and Sauber Alfa Romeo in the last few years, Frederic Vasseur has been given the great opportunity of becoming the new manager of Ferrari since 9 January and there is much anticipation to understand what his approach will be within the team.

Felipe Massa, who raced with the Prancing Horse from 2006 to 2013, analyzed the difficult moment for the Italian side in a recent interview for Corriere dello Sport: “In my eight years in Maranello I have seen everything, successes and difficult moments. Kimi Raikkonen won in 2007, I almost won in 2008, then Ferrari has never managed to have a winning car. Between aerodynamics, engine, strategy, drivers, something is always missing to complete the work”. For the Brazilian driver, who secured eleven victories in Formula 1 with Scuderia Ferrari, the change at the top of the Ferrari team “was necessary” because “you could see that there was confusion inside”, and Mattia Binotto’s departure was a decision made consequential: “It was normal that in the end Mattia paid for these mistakes: he is a very good, talented technician but the result did not come and his exit was not a surprise”, ex-Ferrari man Felipe Massa concluded.
