The 37th edition of the Japanese Grand Prix takes place at the historic Suzuka circuit. Here are all the TV schedules and key moments for the 2023 Japanese GP in Suzuka, along with some useful tips to prepare for the weekend.
What’s the ideal setup at Suzuka?
From a technical standpoint, the Japanese track is a traditional circuit characterized by limited run-off areas and mandatory racing lines in several sections. The track also features a captivating sequence of corners. One of the most iconic sections is the uphill double ‘esses’ after the first corner, as well as the 130R, which poses a challenge for the single-seaters.
To complete a lap at Suzuka, drivers will have to tackle 18 corners, with 10 of them requiring braking. During one lap, the drivers will spend slightly over 13 seconds with their foot on the brake pedal. In five of these corners, the braking lasts less than a second. From the start to the checkered flag, each driver uses the brakes for a total of 11 and a half minutes.
The wide variety of corners makes choosing the optimal setup extremely complex. Teams tend to favor a setup with medium aerodynamic downforce to maintain good grip in the numerous fast corners, without significantly compromising top speed on the straights.
