Fred Vasseur explained why Ferrari decided to bring the much-anticipated updates to the Imola track in the Emilia Romagna GP weekend. There is great anticipation for the updates that Ferrari will bring to Imola. These have been talked about for weeks, even though Fred Vasseur remains grounded.
In a day of interviews with the press, the French team principal urged everyone to stay calm: one cannot expect miracles from a single update. The gap with Red Bull is still there and certainly cannot be closed in just one weekend.
Speaking with journalists ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend about the updates to be seen at the Autodromo Dino ed Enzo Ferrari, Fred Vasseur explained: “We started working on it before the season began. The car you saw in Bahrain, we maximized it in January-February.”
Why did the Maranello team decide to unveil their updates specifically at the Emilia Romagna round? “It was our decision to bring the updates to Imola, and not earlier, like in Miami or China,” he specified.

In the two Grand Prix mentioned above, there was a Sprint weekend, which is not ideal for testing new features on the car. Vasseur therefore decided to bet and “focus everything on Imola.” At this historic circuit, there are “three free practice sessions. For us, it’s better, and it’s also easier to assimilate the updates.” – the French manager pointed out.
The Frenchman reiterated, however, that he does not expect much, at least initially. Indeed, the improvement process is not immediate, as he explained to the press on Thursday afternoon: “If we look closely, sometimes when you introduce an update, you don’t make a big step forward and don’t see it positively. However, if you gain two-tenths, you can exploit them in the setup. It’s not an immediate process in terms of performance,” Fred Vasseur emphasized.
