Tomorrow, Wednesday 30 March, there should be an official statement regarding the confirmation of the Las Vegas Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar starting from the 2023 championship. It will be highly anticipated return to the city of Nevada, after the 1981 and 1982 editions which took place around the famous Caesars Palace hotel-casino. The negotiations have been going on for months now and they have reached a turning point, also thanks to the particularity of the absence of local promoters: the race will in fact be organized directly by Formula 1, in collaboration with the City of Las Vegas. By doing so, the event will not be forced to pay a fee to be on the calendar, but will contribute to the Formula 1 finances with the proceeds and the race.
But that will not be the only peculiarity. British Formula One journalist and long-time reporter Joe Saward explained that the big news for me in Jeddah, apart from things going bang, was the plans that will soon be announced for the new Grand Prix of Las Vegas. The first will take place on 24 November 2023, on America’s Thanksgiving holiday weekend. If you look it up, you will find that this is a Saturday, the day after Black Friday, the first day of the Christmas shopping season.” – he explained.
“This is not a mistake as the race, which will take place on Saturday night under lights on The Strip in Las Vegas, will hit the US television markets at peak hours – and will be broadcast at a sensible hour on Sunday morning in F1’s traditional markets in Europe, and later on the Sunday in Asia.” – Joe Saward posted on his blog.
