Leo Turrini warns Fred Vasseur: “Ferrari is Ferrari. No excises in 2024”. Italian journalist Leo Turrini on Ferrari and Fred Vasseur's prospects for 2024.

In the night at the Yas Marina circuit, there were lights and shadows for Scuderia Ferrari in the final round of the 2023 Formula 1 championship: on one side, Charles Leclerc demonstrated once again that he is ready to be the reference point for the Maranello team, while Carlos Sainz fell victim to a strategy that didn’t pay off, complicated by an increasingly difficult weekend, which was also marked by a crash in the second free practice session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

However, it’s not on them that Leo Turrini focused his analysis in his recent articles posted on the Il Quotidiano website.

The journalist emphasized that in 2024, the role of Frederic Vasseur will be crucial for the Italian side’s future.. He is called for confirmation since he will lead Maranello from the beginning of the work and development on the new car, unlike what happened this Formula 1 season: “In Abu Dhabi, Charles Leclerc did his job. Even a bit more than his job. Carlos Sainz completely messed up the weekend. Moreover, he was not helped (euphemism) by a tire strategy that I, certainly due to my ignorance, just didn’t understand. Considering that, as a result of the very recent events, Charles Leclerc closed the season ahead of Carlitos (and this takes away more than one argument from those who don’t appreciate Leclerc, ahem ahem), the real question that 2024 will have to answer concerns Fred Vasseur. 2023 cannot be attributed to him. The French countryside caretaker arrived too late, with the car already prepared and with a staff that was that of Mattia Binotto. From the next season, there will be zero excuses. I believe that Fred Vasseur knows this perfectly well. Ferrari is Ferrari. It gives a lot, but it also demands a lot. Best wishes to Fred.” – Leo Turrini concluded.

Christian Horner feels "Charles Leclerc should've held back George Russell" at Yas MarinaEngine issue forced Carlos Sainz to retire in Abu Dhabi; points were not possible regardless of strategy

The Ferrari technical leadership has to change. The 2023 Ferrari still suffers from high tire degradation and an inability to consistently extract performance from the hyper temperature sensitive Pirelli tires.
The other problem is the two drivers are not aligned on car handling balance. Leclerc prefers a strong front end whereas Sainz prefers a strong rear end. Ferrari engineers are already struggling to improve the car and having two drivers who want the opposite balance from the car is not good for clarity of development. Ferrari would be better off developing the car to suit Leclerc who is the natural faster driver. If it means replacing Sainz with another driver more closely aligned with Leclerc then so be it.
