F1 | Ferrari’s problems are not drivers, but lack of technicians – report. Ferrari's problems are not drivers.

The problems of Scuderia Ferrari are not, and have never been, the drivers. What is lacking are prominent technical figures who can bring developments on the strategic front of the Italian side’s Formula 1 car.

With these simple words, Formula 1 expert Roberto Chinchero summarizes his thoughts on the matter related to the sensational rumor of Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari in 2024. The Sky commentator reflected on yesterday’s rumors during his usual Monday evening live session.

The aforementioned “exclusive” news was reported by British newspaper Daily Mail, which stated that the Maranello team has a sky-high sum to hire the British multiple world champion and therefore caused a great stir.

“I cannot imagine Ferrari currently dedicating time and energy to the driver lineup. Why? Because I don’t believe that the drivers are the critical element for the Prancing Horse,” explained Roberto Chinchero.

The journalist then went on to outline possible scenarios of a lineup composed of either Charles Leclerc – Lewis Hamilton or Carlos Sainz – Lewis Hamilton. “I don’t understand why Mercedes would be interested in doing this, but let’s say their relationship deteriorates.”

According to Roberto Chinchero, the best solution for Ferrari would be to invest time and energy in the market for engineers, bringing in important personalities to the team. “At this moment, more than getting Hamilton, it is more important for Ferrari to get Dan Fallows, for example. It is more strategic. Or get Newey, even though he will never move from Red Bull.”

In other words, bringing Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari does not solve the issues related to an unstable SF-23 car.

Charles Leclerc is strong, Carlos Sainz is consistent: it would not make sense to disrupt the balance between the two drivers that has worked so far. Furthermore, the Monegasque driver is also close to renewing his contract with Scuderia Ferrari, which is another reason not to give weight to these transfer market rumors. “Unless there are hidden reasons that we haven’t been able to grasp,” concluded Roberto Chinchero.
