Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel will come back stronger after losing out to Charles Leclerc in last year’s battle for supremacy at the Maranello team. That is the opinion of 2009 F1 champion Jenson Button, who has ranked Vettel among the best drivers he ever came up against.
Sebastian Vettel will beging his sixth season alongside Ferrari, having tried to help return them to the top of the drivers’ and constructors’ standings. Charles Leclerc, in his first season with Ferrari, finished above Sebastian in the World Drivers’ Championship standings, with the 32-year-old enduring his worst campaign since 2014.
However, Jenson Button has thrown his backing behind the German, who he is certain will come back reinvigorated for another skirmish with Charles Leclerc and his pit-lane rivals.

“Doing four on the bounce was a big deal, I really do think,” Jenson Button told Sky Sports F1. “Struggling a little bit more now, I would say. Going through some tough times with such a competitive team-mate but I think it’s going to make him a better driver in the future. I think [in 2019] he made some silly mistakes, which I’m sure he would say are silly mistakes as well. But I also think he’ll come out of the other side of this as a better driver, I really do. He’s got somebody who’s really pushed him and beaten him throughout a season. So I think he’ll come back stronger. He has immense talent. And I think we will see that once we get racing this year.”
Button’s comments came as he listed Vettel among the top six drivers he faced during his own career in F1. Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher was among them, along with two-time champion and McLaren hero Mika Hakkinen. Button also pointed to Vettel’s long-standing rival Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes, as well as the retired two-time F1 champion Fernando Alonso. Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was something of a surprise inclusion given he and Button only raced each other for a couple of seasons.
