Former Formula 1 world champion and current Sky Sports F1 pundit Jenson Button believes that new Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz will be able to challenge Charles Leclerc during the 2021 Formula 1 season and beyond, after Carlos finished in eighth place at the first race of the season, the Bahrain Grand Prix, with teammate Charles Leclerc in sixth place.
Jenson Button is backing Carlo Sainz to come back strong in the following races, once his feeling with the Ferrari SF21 car will improve and to take the fight to the young Monegasque driver.
“I do think Carlos will match Leclerc,” Jenson Button said, as reported by Sky Sports F1 – “I’m speaking to the McLaren engineers, you know, they say that basically, Carlos is an engineer, and that he’s great. He’s not letting his emotions get in the way of what the car can actually achieve and he’s not overdriving it. We saw that all weekend, he’s a clever guy, so they have a great pair of drivers right there.” – he explained.
At the same time, Paul Di Resta was also confident regarding Carlos Sainz’s prospects alongside the Maranello team, adding that the two Ferrari drivers can bring the team back to the top in the future. For the Italian side it will be difficult to fight for podiums in 2020, but Ferrari can be confident for the next seasons:
“They’ve got two guys that are definitely in the fight. They’re up against each other, they’re pushing each other and they’ve publicly said they’re pushing each other. I’m just very excited to see how they’re gonna go and how much they can keep moving on and keep developing.” – Paul Di Resta concluded.
