An eighth place to start the adventure alongside Scuderia Ferrari. All in all, Carlos Sainz provided a sufficient performance in Bahrain, considering he was making his race debut with the Maranello team and he needs time to learn every detail of the SF21 car. This is the view of Jenson Button believes (in addition to that of Gian Carlo Minardi) , according to which the Spaniard will be able to make a much more significant contribution in terms of points within a few races.
“I think Carlos will get close to Charles Leclerc. I spoke tothe McLaren engineers and they told me that the Spaniard is basically an engineer. This is fantastic, of course, because he doesn’t let his emotions take over when it comes to getting the performance out of the car. He doesn’t go over the limits when he drives and we have seen him all weekend in Bahrain. He’s a smart guy, Ferrari can be happy and count on a great pair of drivers.” – the 2009 Formula 1 world champion told British broadcaster Sky Sports UK .
At the Sakhir circuit, the Spaniard actually confirmed what Ferrari fans expected: solidity, clean driving, reliability. It has certainly not stolen the eye, also because the car – although improved from last year – does not allow the drivers to fight for more ambitious results. For a car that aims to grow and finish third, the SF21 car has started by being the fourth force on the grid. Of course, to beat McLaren, Scuderia Ferrari will need consistency and and a better race pace.
