Scuderia Ferrari is currently strong: even in Brazil, it could seriously be in contention for victory and, why not, even be the favorite. To better understand how the situation could unfold, Maranello will need to clarify certain questions and have a clearer picture.
A small (huge) detail should be specified right away. At the Interlagos track, the circuit has been resurfaced. As a result, it’s impossible to know how the new surface will perform and what type of grip it can guarantee. Furthermore, it should be considered that the Sprint Race format will also be in place in Brazil.
What issues could Ferrari face in Brazil?
In essence, Ferrari (as well as everyone else) will find itself in a race weekend with only one free practice session to test the new surface at Interlagos. Ferrari could struggle more since it has already shown issues with the softer compounds during qualifying sessions.
Incidentally, Pirelli will bring the softest compounds to Brazil. So, for now, Ferrari is confident in having gathered excellent data in the simulator. Unfortunately, though, the simulator doesn’t account for the new track surface, which will be practically unknown, with only one practice session before going out for the qualifying shootout.
But this might not be the only problem. Ferrari has already shown itself to be very strong with medium-high air and track temperatures. In Brazil, the weather is always a big unknown, and rain is forecasted on race day, which could lower the temperatures.
In short, Ferrari arrives in Brazil with optimism thanks to the simulator data but must be very mindful of external circumstances over which it unfortunately has no control.
