Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc is facing a truly difficult season with the Maranello team. The 25-year-old currently sits seventh in the standings, 128 points behind championship leader Max Verstappen ahead of the next round of the 2023 F1 campaign, the Canadian Grand Prix, which will take place this weekend at the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.
The Spanish Grand Prix was also a disaster for the Monegasque driver, as he failed to advance past Q1 in qualifying at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona and finished the race in eleventh place, outside the points zone.
Formula One journalist Peter Windsor, former Ferrari and Williams team manager (he worked as general manager for Ferrari’s UK base in 1989), stated that number 16 could even decide to leave the Maranello team and settle to join a smaller team like Alpine. Here are his comments:
Peter Windsor’s comments on Charles Leclerc
The Formula One journalist, who started his journalism career at the now defunct monthly magazine Competition Car, speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, said: “Without a doubt, Charles Leclerc will be incredibly frustrated and will surely want Ferrari to perform well and for the car to become fast again. However, in my opinion, he may also think that even Alpine could be better in terms of driving. After all, they consistently make it into the top 10 in qualifying.” – the 71-year-old pointed out.

The British commentator then added: “He might be so desperate as to make this decision, even though the new updates from the Prancing Horse seem to be really efficient in the wind tunnel, and Charles is working hard on them.” – Peter Windsor believes.

The former Ferrari and Williams team manager concluded by saying: “Let’s say that if he were to leave Ferrari to join Alpine, it would be very interesting. It may not be Red Bull or Mercedes, but if he wants a new team just to change the environment, he has nothing to lose, and I imagine that Alpine is at the top of his list.”
