Johnny Herbert, former teammate of Michael Schumacher, has made significant statements, also providing an update on the health conditions of the former Ferrari driver.
It’s not the first time that pundits let loose with heavy, not exactly flattering, and sometimes unfounded words towards those who cannot defend themselves, especially during this time of year.
Johnny Herbert’s comments
In a recent interview, Johnny Herbert was asked to share an story that best summarized Michael Schumacher.
The Englishman responded: “He had a very funny side. We all know there was an extremely serious side to him, totally driven by the desire to get the best out of himself. But there was also the end-of-season downtime, the relaxation time we always had after Adelaide.”
“He enjoyed the pleasures of alcohol that were available; we all did. We could only do it once a year. He would walk around the room, and his forte was tearing shirts off everyone. Even trousers. But it was mostly the buttoned shirts that he loved to tear.”
“That was his funny side. These are the memories most people haven’t seen, but they are the most beautiful memories I have of him. He had a great sense of humor, and we hope to see him again,” he added.
“The family is looking for something that brings back the Michael we knew”
The pundit then continued by providing an update on the health conditions of the seven-time world champion: “I only hear from second-hand sources. I’ve heard, from those who are part of F1, that he sits down for dinner, but I don’t know if it’s true.”

“I can only read between the lines, but we haven’t heard much from the family, and it’s understandable. It has always been a way for Michael and his family to keep everything very private, very secret.” – he added.
“This has remained since the racing days. I don’t think things have progressed the way many of us who knew him and many of his fans worldwide would like to see. They would like to know, all of us would like to know, that things are going positively. But since we have no information, we can only assume that he is still not in a position where there is a chance of recovery.”
“In my opinion, and I have to emphasize because we haven’t had news from the family, this suggests that unfortunately, he is probably in the same situation as he was immediately after the accident. It doesn’t seem like there has been much movement, if any at all. I suppose the family is waiting for science to find something that, hopefully, brings back the Michael we all knew and for people who only saw him through television images when he was dynamic on a track. It is primarily this that we want to see,” Johnny Herbert concluded.
