Ferrari Driver Academy member Oliver Bearman found himself suddenly thrust into the cockpit of the Ferrari SF-24 single-seater for the second round of the 2024 Formula 1 championship, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, at just 18 years old. A dream come true, but also a tremendous responsibility that the young English driver managed to handle, who was able to handle the pressure and achieve a remarkable performance finishing the race in seventh place under the checkered flag.
Now, the substitute for Carlos Sainz will return to Formula 2, where he awaits a seat with Prema to confirm his growth and improve upon the 6th-place finish from the previous Formula 1 season. He will now have the eyes of fans and industry professionals closely monitoring his journey, as the Ferrari Driver Academy member hopes to receive the opportunity to race full time in Formula 1 next season, with Haas being the best chance the British driver has for the 2025 F1 championship.
Flavio Briatore is impressed by Oliver Bearman
Interviewed by Rai Radio 1, the seasoned manager Italian businessman and former Renault team principal Flavio Briatore, who knows a thing or two about promising young drivers – as seen with Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso – shared his thoughts and the performance and results of Oliver Bearman in his first Formula 1 Grand Prix: “Bearman certainly has something. What that is, we will see in time. But he was exceptional. No one knew him, and he did very well. Finishing the race competitively and keeping others behind, that’s already something to congratulate him for.” – former Renault boss Flavio Briatore stated.
