Fred Vasseur – Jacques Villeneuve, intense exchange of words: “Sometimes you’re wrong too”. Fred Vasseur and Jacques Villeneuve had an intense exchange of words .

After the Canadian Grand Prix qualifying, which saw both Ferrari cars eliminated in Q2, Scuderia Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur and Jacques Villeneuve had an intense exchange of words. The French team principal did not hold back and quickly responded to Jacques Villeneuve’s criticisms. The Canadian GP qualifying revealed major twists, including the elimination of both Ferraris in Q2.

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will start the Canadian Grand Prix in P11 and P12, respectively. The last time both drivers failed to pass Q2 together was Spa 2021.

For the Montreal weekend, Jacques Villeneuve was called as a commentator for Sky Sports F1 and found himself in the middle of a toxic conversation with Frederic Vasseur. “Before the weekend, I was convinced that Ferrari…” started the former F1 driver before being interrupted by the team principal.

Jacques Villeneuve continued, explaining: “I was convinced that you had all the ingredients, that the circuit was perfect for Ferrari with the slow corners and changes of direction. And it didn’t work.”

What happened to Ferrari in Canada?
The Gilles Villeneuve circuit was resurfaced before the Canadian Grand Prix, so Jacques Villeneuve asked if the new track or its temperatures might have contributed to the Q2 elimination.

“No, the new asphalt is the same for everyone,” replied Frederic Vasseur. “I think the conditions become a bit more extreme as soon as a few drops of rain start falling. In cold conditions, it’s really difficult to adapt. However, this is not an excuse. The conditions are the same for everyone, and we must face them.”

Frederic Vasseur also confirmed that opting for used soft tires in the last Q2 lap was not a risky gamble. The new set, in fact, was supposed to be used in Q3: “We are all in the same situation, except for Mercedes, because they only used one set in Q1.”
