Will Lando Norris receive a penalty after the Sprint Race at the United States GP in Austin for his duel with Charles Leclerc? On the final lap, the two battled intensely for third place, but in the end, it was the McLaren driver who came out on top. The mini podium featured Max Verstappen (the anonymous winner, barely shown during the Sprint), Carlos Sainz, who started fifth and finished second (with a solid performance), and, of course, Lando Norris.
However, there was a fierce battle between Lando Norris and the Monegasque until the last lap. Charles Leclerc particularly complained about what he considered an unfair move by the Briton during a braking point. After the Sprint ended, Norris was summoned by the race stewards for a discussion, and now the decision on any potential penalty has been made.
The Formula 1 regulations explicitly prohibit movement under braking. However, it is up to the stewards to assess each situation individually.
The race stewards decided not to apply any penalty. Therefore, the positions remain unchanged: Norris retains third place, and Leclerc stays in fourth. After evaluating all the data available, the FIA found no “significant change of direction under braking, and the move in Turn 15 was considered legitimate defense,” according to the official document.
“In Turn 1, car 4 locked up and went wide, losing position. The stewards unanimously decided there was no erratic driving, and therefore no further action was taken.”
Formula 1 returns at midnight for the Austin Grand Prix qualifying session, which will determine the starting grid for Sunday’s race.
