Carlos Sainz, a tearful goodbye
No matter one’s opinion of the driver, it’s impossible not to stand and applaud Carlos Sainz for his 2024 Formula 1 season. A driver who had to let go of his dream of racing for Ferrari, expending mental energy not only to recover from the disappointment but also to seek a destination worthy of his caliber (which, unfortunately for the Smooth Operator, didn’t materialize). Yet, he remained a key player until the end, with two victories, nine podiums, and a pole position.
Ferrari knows who is arriving but also recognizes who is leaving—a consummate professional who earned the team’s affection. Even his primary rival, with whom he had a significant clash just a few days prior, was ready to acknowledge his value.
Carlos Sainz’s emotion
On Sunday evening, the Scuderia bid farewell to Carlos Sainz with a video that struck a chord, profoundly moving the Matador.

“Guys, now you’ve seen my emotional side. I think this video is the best way to close this chapter. Thank you so much, Fred, thank you to the whole team,” said a tearful Carlos Sainz in his final words as a Ferrari driver. At least for now—neither the driver nor team principal Frederic Vasseur has ruled out a possible reunion in the future.
