Lewis Hamilton chasing Juan Manuel Fangio: only he has won with both Mercedes and Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton could join the Argentine legend in this unique statistic.

The dream duo
Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari. The dream combination that unites the most successful driver in F1 history with the most decorated team has become a reality. The Englishman, who recently turned 40, arrives in Maranello with the goal of pursuing his eighth career title and delivering Ferrari a championship victory, absent since 2007 for Drivers and 2008 for Constructors.

Chasing Juan Manuel Fangio
The British driver, now a former Mercedes stalwart, could also make history in another way. In F1 history, only Juan Manuel Fangio has managed to win races and titles driving for both the Silver Arrows and the Prancing Horse. Fangio achieved this remarkable feat both in terms of individual Grand Prix victories and world championships, and even in consecutive years: he triumphed with Mercedes in 1954-55 and won the championship with Ferrari in 1956.

This unique statistic is largely due to Mercedes’ extended absence from Grand Prix racing. After supplying engines for various teams, the brand didn’t field an official works team from the end of the 1955 season until its return in 2010.

A slightly broader group, however, includes drivers who have won at least one race with cars powered by both Ferrari and Mercedes. In this case, Hamilton would join a club that includes—besides Juan Manuel Fangio, of course—Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, and Rubens Barrichello.
