Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s purge continues: another departure from FIA. The latest individual “purged” from Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s FIA is Paolo Basarri.

The exodus at the FIA continues under the leadership of Mohammed Ben Sulayem, as yet another figure has departed the organization. This time, it is the Italian Paolo Basarri who has decided to leave.

The latest individual “purged” from Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s FIA is Paolo Basarri, who has stepped down from his position at the International Automobile Federation.

Neither the FIA nor Basarri Paolo have issued any comments on the matter, maintaining complete silence. What is certain, however, is Paolo Basarri’s departure from the organization, leaving vacant the role of “Head of Compliance” at the Federation.

The BBC broke the news, citing insider information from sources close to the FIA. According to the report, President Mohammed Ben Sulayem had lost confidence in Paolo Basarri, prompting the decision to replace him in his role. Dismissing the “Head of Compliance” typically requires discussion by the FIA Senate, but according to the BBC, this procedure was not followed.

Paolo Basarri is just the latest in a series of personnel to leave the FIA in recent months. Only a few days ago, Niels Wittich, the former F1 race director, also departed. Niels Wittich joins at least five other FIA members who have stepped down from their roles under Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s leadership in recent months.

Particularly noteworthy are two incidents that Basarri had documented in his reports. These date back to 2023, when Mohammed Ben Sulayem found himself embroiled in controversies over alleged interference regarding Alonso’s penalty in Jeddah and the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
