F1 has been facing years of controversy due to race direction decisions that often spark debate, prompting the FIA to overhaul its organizational structure to improve its operations.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem had already hinted at the introduction of multiple race directors, and confirmation has now arrived. Niels Wittich’s replacement, Rui Marques, will be joined by Claire Dubbelman, a woman with considerable experience in motorsports. She has been part of the FIA since 2017 and has served as the sporting director for F1 as well as for the F2 and F3 championships.

The Dutchwoman rose through the ranks via a new development program organized by the FIA. This initiative, called the High Performance Programme (HPP), was launched in 2020 to train FIA personnel. Stewards, directors, and delegates from the FIA’s seven world championships have gathered to receive updates on new regulations, the implementation of artificial intelligence in motorsports, and other topics such as communication and media.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem expressed his satisfaction with the launch of this new development project within the Federation. “This summit is a historic event that recognizes and celebrates the contributions of FIA officials, who are the backbone of motorsport.”

He also reaffirmed the initiative’s goal: to train individuals capable of working at the highest levels of FIA championships. “The FIA is committed to identifying and developing officiating talent, promoting accessibility and diversity, as well as providing support, training, and opportunities for empowerment. 2025 is the year of our officials.”
