These are truly difficult and delicate days for the Emilia-Romagna region, due to the bad weather and the resulting hardships that have been affecting the area for days, without giving respite to both the citizens and the rescue efforts for the affected population. This situation has inevitably had a strong impact on the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Made in Italy and Emilia Romagna, originally scheduled for this weekend of the 4.909-kilometre Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, commonly known as Imola.
After the initial problems on Tuesday, which involved the teams present at the circuit for the weekend preparations (all personnel were evacuated as a precaution due to the safety limits being exceeded by the Santerno river adjacent to the track), the situation did not improve yesterday.
This unfortunate situation inevitably led the promoters, institutions, and organizers to engage in profound reflections to discuss and decide on the possible continuation of the race weekend (also considering the healthcare and security personnel involved and diverted from those in greater need).
These discussions naturally resulted in the decision (made yesterday) to officially cancel the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in order to give top priority to the population’s rescue efforts and to avoid burdening a already devastated territory with nearly 200,000 people arriving. This decision received unanimous support from all those involved in the event within a few minutes. It’s worth mentioning that teams and drivers did not miss the opportunity to express their complete solidarity with Emilia Romagna and its entire population.

Of course, given its history, location, and strong connection with its territory, Scuderia Ferrari has also immediately decided to show full solidarity with the population through a press release on its official social media channels. In addition to expressing solidarity, however, the Maranello-based team has decided to provide concrete assistance to the Emilia-Romagna region and its population during this difficult time by donating one million euros to support the areas affected by the bad weather, with particular attention to environmental recovery projects and hydrogeological disaster management.
“Ferrari – as stated in the Maranello statement – is donating one million euros in favor of the Territorial Security Agency and Civil Protection of the Emilia-Romagna Region, joining the regional fundraising campaign.”

The donation was also commented on by the CEO of Ferrari, Benedetto Vigna: “In times of difficulty, Ferrari has always been by the side of its community. We wanted to provide a concrete and immediate response to the most urgent needs of the population of Emilia-Romagna, which has been hit by a serious environmental disaster. With the coordination of local authorities, to whom we express our heartfelt thanks for their tireless work during these hours, this aid can bring comfort and a tangible sign of solidarity from the entire Ferrari family.” – Ferrari chief executive officer Benedetto Vigna said.
