What does a Ferrari driver see on the monitor when stopped in the pits? – VIDEO. Carlos Sainz had the chance to reveal what a driver sees on the special monitor used in the pits.

Carlos Sainz, Ferrari driver, had the chance to reveal what a driver sees on the special monitor used in the pits during free practice and qualifying sessions.

Some of you may have wondered what drivers see on the monitor positioned on their cars when stopped in the pits during free practice and qualifying sessions: Ferrari explains it. In a video created in collaboration with Santander, they explained how the special monitor used in the pits is structured.

Carlos Sainz himself explains this in a video posted on Santander’s social media pages (now a former sponsor of Ferrari), revealing the mystery of these monitors. Some of the data displayed are essential for the driver to prepare effectively for returning to the track.

First of all, the times of all the drivers are shown in real time as the session progresses. These are the same data that appear on TV and are accessible to everyone. In addition, the individual lap times of the driver are displayed, allowing them to see where and how to improve their lap and to have a clear picture of the race pace simulation.

These lap times are instantly compared with the data of their respective teammate. The times are usually accompanied by telemetry. This helps to understand, for example, in which corners the car is performing better and the straight-line speed performance.

But that’s not all. Through GPS, the positions of all the cars on the track are displayed, showing how they are moving. This is useful to decide the best moment to return to the track and avoid getting caught in traffic.

The data from the other drivers also help to better understand the track conditions at that particular moment, especially in the case of rain or strong wind. In short, all of this data is absolutely essential for the driver as they prepare to return to the track and set the fastest lap.
