Italian press review: how front pages of newspapers celebrate Charles Leclerc’s Monza win | 2024 Italian GP. The front pages of newspapers celebrate the triumph of the Prancing Horse in the Italian F1 GP.

Charles Leclerc, Monza F1

The checkered flag waved at the end of the 53rd lap of the Italian F1 Grannd Prix delivers an unexpected victory to Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari: here’s what the main Italian sports newspapers wrote on their front pages the day after Monza’s red triumph.

A sensational success for Charles Leclerc in the Temple of Speed. The updates brought to the track by the men in red – gratefully thanked by the Monegasque in the post-race – have shaped an SF-24 capable of matching the McLarens, at least on Italian soil. The speed of the car, combined with the extraordinary skills of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz and the daring strategy of the pit wall, delivered an almost unexpected joy to the enthusiastic crowd at Monza, a victory also celebrated by the national newspapers.

When the race seemed firmly in the hands of Oscar Piastri’s McLaren, Ferrari knew how to take a risk. The single pit stop didn’t seem like a viable option, but the Ferrari team surprised everyone: for Gazzetta dello Sport, the Monegasque is the “Lord in Red” who brings “delirium to Monza” in a “perfect race.”

La Rosea also reports an interesting statistic. Charles Leclerc joins the exclusive club of those who – in a Ferrari suit – have won at Monza at least twice. Before him, only Ascari, Phil Hill, Regazzoni, Barrichello, and Schumacher achieved this. Even more exclusive is the statistic that puts Jody Scheckter alongside Charles Leclerc. They are the only two drivers to have won both Monaco and Monza with Ferrari in the same season.

Tuttosport celebrates the strategy chosen by Ferrari and Leclerc. For the Turin newspaper, it was a “stroke of genius,” giving Monza a “mind-blowing triumph.” In Brianza, “Charles drives brilliantly, dismantling Piastri and Norris,” and “a single pit stop baffles the McLarens.”

“Lionheart”: this is the epithet chosen by Corriere dello Sport to crown a Leclerc who proves to be in sync with the Ferrari environment. For the newspaper, Charles is now somewhat of an adopted son of Italy: “At Monza, Ferrari’s triumph is all Leclerc’s, the Italian.”
