The FIA introduced this change to make overtaking less easy compared to 2023. The detection point and the other two DRS zones remain unchanged.
Modifications in Mexico
On the eve of the weekend for the Mexican Grand Prix, the FIA intervened to make overtaking more difficult compared to last season in the DRS zone, especially on the main straight. For this reason, after the adjustments already made last weekend in Austin, another official announcement has arrived for the ‘Hermanos Rodriguez’ circuit in Mexico City.
Reduced DRS zone
In an attempt to strike a better balance between making overtakes too easy or too difficult, the International Federation announced the reduction of the DRS zone. Compared to last season, the activation point for the movable wing exiting turn 17 will be shortened by 75 meters. To be more specific, the DRS can be activated 240 meters after the corner, as opposed to 165 meters in 2023.
What remains unchanged
What remains unchanged is the detection point, which determines if the car following is within one second of the car ahead, as well as the other DRS zone on the main straight. Additionally, there are no changes to the other two DRS zones on the track.
