In just 72 hours, it has become clear that General Motors will officially join Formula 1 in 2026. Recent reports confirm that the GM-backed entry will be named *Cadillac F1*, and the team is set to be powered by Ferrari engines for the duration of their initial partnership.

General Motors’ Strategic Move into Formula 1
After years of attempting to secure a place on the F1 grid—highlighted by Andretti’s near-purchase of Sauber in 2021—discussions that had previously stalled have rapidly advanced behind the scenes. GM’s heightened involvement, building on Andretti’s earlier groundwork, has led to significant progress in bringing the US manufacturer into the fold.

Presenting Liberty Media with an offer that is difficult to decline, GM’s entry represents the arrival of one of the world’s largest car manufacturers into Formula 1. Key figures like Michael Andretti and Greg Maffei have helped revitalize talks, effectively restarting the process in recent months.

This fresh momentum has resulted in *Cadillac F1* being confirmed as the 11th team on the grid starting in 2026, as reported by the Associated Press. The only remaining step is the official announcement.

Plans for the Future
While GM works towards producing their own power units for *Cadillac F1* by 2028, Ferrari will provide the team with engines in the interim. Despite several setbacks in the negotiations between Andretti and Liberty Media, the US team has remained committed to entering F1 and has been preparing for this moment for some time.

Even before an official approval from F1, the team, under the direction of GM, has laid the groundwork for their 2026 debut. Significant investments in infrastructure have already been made, and a skilled workforce is in place to ensure the team is ready to compete at the highest level of motorsport.

With a formal agreement now in place, a clear timeline for the expansion of the grid has been established, signaling a new chapter for Formula 1. General Motors joins Audi and Ford as major manufacturers preparing to enter the sport, adding yet another exciting dimension to the competitive landscape ahead of the 2026 Formula 1 regulatory changes.
