Ferrari junior Mick Schumacher has confirmed that several aspects of his first Formula 1 season were in fact different frpm his initial expectations, on track as well as off it. The Ferrari Driver Academy member gained a Formula 1 seat as a result of his Formula 2 win in the previous championship. Ahead of his Formula 1 debut season, Mick Schumacher had often take some time to adjust before achieving better results.
Yet Mick Schumacher admitted he was surprised by how comfortable he has felt on the track in Formula 1, and has also pointed out some differences in the paddock to what he had anticipated: “I had imagined that there would be more commotion in the paddock,” – Mick Schumacher said, in a recent interview for Auto Motor und Sport – “The COVID situation has certainly defused that somewhat. I feel more comfortable than expected on the track. I feel accepted with open arms.” – he added.

When asked if there was any aspect which he had overestimated or underestimated, Mick Schumacher replied: “Nothing that comes directly to mind. The car is of course a good deal faster than anything I had driven before. Getting to know the tyres was also a big point, because they are very different from Formula 2. And of course learning how to work together in such a big team.” – he said.
Regarding the positive aspect of a faster adaptation in Formula 1 as compared to his previous competitions, Mick Schumacher feels this may have happened because he has now achieved his goal of reaching the top class: “Maybe it’s because of the approach. You enter the junior formulae with the clear goal of progressing to the next class. In Formula 2, you always have the thought in the back of your mind: I hope I make it to Formula 1. Then, when you get to the top, you can put your shoulders down. You can only concentrate on the work that needs to be done. That’s why I felt comfortable here right from the start.” – the Ferrari junior concluded.
