Certainly the distinctive feature of Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto is not that of controversy. Fans, media and professionals have thus learned to know a calm and balanced leader, capable of staying out of media battles, for example by binding the conclusions reached by the FIA with a confidentiality pact after the analysis of the Maranello team’s 2019 power unit. As is known, Scuderia Ferrari watched the duel between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in the final race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, from third place in the constructors’ classification, which was also replicated on the track at the finish line by Carlos Sainz, who finished just behind the two title contenders.
The Italian engineer returned to the facts which took place at the Yas Marina circuit, providing support to the highly criticized Michael Masi: “In Abu Dhabi, any decision by the race director would have displeased someone, Mercedes or Red Bull. At that moment his job was the hardest in the world. But that is not to say that mistakes have been made, maybe the rules have to change. We will review the episode to understand how to improve “.
Mattia Binotto is convinced of the fairness of FIA’s work: “We expect regularity in the control of the cars, of the spending budgets and in the sporting part, as Abu Dhabi has shown. We had faith in the past and we have it today: we are in contact with the new president and fully involved”.
In the traditional meeting with journalists at the end of the season, the Italian manager also shared his thoughts on the sprint races, which were trialed at three races during the 2021 Formula 1 season: “For years Liberty Media has been doing an excellent job to improve the show, and the Sprint Qualifying goes in this direction. We as Ferrari always emphasize the need for an increase in entertainment not to harm the sporting content, and Stefano Domenicali is a guarantee from this point of view.” – the Ferrari boss concluded.
